A resort that feels like home

Look for information about Vila Porto Mare and you'll find a great number of awards and kind comments left by its guests. It’s a memorable resort to which the clients spare no compliments to, never forgetting to come back.

Many of them return year after year, sometimes more than once. They mostly praise the comfort, spacious rooms, food quality, the climate, the beauty of its gardens, both their indoor and outdoor pools, its spa, bars and liveliness.

The guests feel especially welcome, adults and children alike, just as if they were at home. The resort’s proximity to the sea and its tranquillity show that a good resort is enough to leave the rest of the World behind and enjoy the holidays in the best way possible.

Vila Porto Mare is part of the PortoBay Hotels and Resorts chain and aggregates three different hotels which, linked among themselves, share the same facilities. The Eden Mar, group’s first hotel, along with Porto Mare and The Residence, make a unique resort, with shared spaces and services bringing a whole new meaning to the word Holidays.

At The Residence there are mostly one and two-bedroom apartments. Eden Mar and Porto Mare have mostly rooms and suites. Fully equipped kitchenettes can be found in both The Residence and Eden Mar.

Each hotel has its own entrance and reception service but they all have shared services. This means a guest from any of the three hotels can have access to all services available, including restaurants, bars and the enormous solarium that ranges across the whole property, the life and soul of the resort.

The solarium is in fact a mix of pools and wonderful gardens with a total of 13.400 square meters. You’ll be sure to find quiet little corners for you to relax or sunbathe in, just like you would on your home’s backyard.

The gardens include more than 500 different types of plants and several bird species, identifiable by the tags next to them. A stroll through the well-looked-after flower beds, designed to flourish all year round, could very well be a great leisure activity. These gardens have been designed by Gerald Lockhurst, an English landscape artist. His main point of focus was the fusion of the island’s unique flower species in junction with plants from all across the globe.

When it comes to services available, there is a lot to choose from in this resort: 4 restaurants, 5 bars, an ice-cream shop, 5 pools, both indoor and outdoor, SPA, sporting fields and places for children to play in.

As far as food is concerned, it’s impossible not to love the Atlântida Restaurant’s diversity, both at breakfast and at its dinner buffet.

When it comes to theme restaurants, Med is a high-quality Mediterranean restaurant, located at the very heart of the resort. Besides the usual menu, on Wednesdays you can enjoy the Meat Lovers theme night: all sorts of dishes made from always fresh, 100% Madeira meat.

You can count on a Fillet Mignon, or a Chateâubriand carved on your table by the chef himself, or a juicy Ox Entrecôte, among many other dishes, always accompanied by a selection of warm and cold sauces and many beautiful Portuguese wines to go with you meal.

The same philosophy applies to the Flavours of the Sea night, at Alfama Restaurant, this time, with a wide range of fish dishes, from the Nordic Salmon to the Atlantic fishes, such as Red Snapper (Pargo), Wrasse (Bodião), Sardines (Sardinhas) or Little Seabass (Robalinho) . ..

Also inspired by the Mediterranean flavours, Il Basilico is an Italian restaurant outside the hotel, with a view to Funchal’s maritime promenade. It is known as one of the best Italian restaurants in Madeira and it’s open all the way from lunch to dinner. A fine thin crusty pizza in between meals is the ultimate treat!

All sorts of art pieces can be found all over the resort, most of them made by Brazilian plastic artist Santos Silva, who lived in Madeira for a while, specifically to get most of the original paintings that one can find along the resort done. Works from other artists that PortoBay has acquired over time can also be found, from artists like José Luis Serzo or sculptors such as Paulo Neves and Martim Velosa.

Vila Porto Mare can be found within walking distance from the sea. The way there is filled with one of the many promenade’s parks. The only view you’ll get from your balcony or the solarium though, is the ocean. The resort’s architecture was designed so that its guests have a pleasant view towards the sea. Staying there also means not having to listen to the city sounds. And it helps to know that you’re only 50 metres away from an ocean dive too!

These are the little big details that make the resort’s strong identity and high quality, efficient service. It shows the company’s vast experience in dealing with its costumers’ everyday needs.

Come inside, where a peaceful, resting environment awaits… A real holiday.
