Holiday at Vila Porto Mare

During the Easter holidays, we went to Vila Porto Mare resort for a few days. We wanted to rest and spend quality time as a family, without stress.  We were not interested in big plane trips. We just wanted to feel in 'holiday mode' in Madeira. Here's our daily life at Vila Porto Mare !!

7:30 . Sunrise

The sun rose at 7:58 a.m., a great time for those who have "early riser children", like me. The best spot to see the sunrise is next to the Belvedere, facing the sea, listening to the birds singing. We witnessed the arrival of a cruise ship. The sun rose with all its force, colouring the gardens and pools.

8:15 . Breakfast by the pool

The Atlântida Restaurant has a glass-enclosed room overlooking the pool. We requested a table in this spot and enjoyed a good breakfast with no rush. We loved the pancakes, the fresh orange juice, the crispy croissants and the variety of fresh fruit.

9:15 . Walk on the Lido Promenade

This early morning walk is lovely. There is freshness in the air, trees and flowers. The sea has a magical sparkle. We walked to Praia Formosa and crossed the tunnel of Docas do Cavacas, which has an open window to the sea, where you can feel the beauty of the waves.

10:00 . We went back to the Hotel to relax and do absolutely nothing !!

The kids went straight to the pools, and I enjoyed the sun, while reading my book. On Wednesdays, there is a guided tour of the hotel gardens, where you will find more than 450 species of plants, flowers, trees and an orchid garden !!

11:00 . Get active !!

The gym is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. !! There is Pilates on Wednesdays, Yoga on Tuesdays and Water Gymnastics on Sundays. The kids challenged me to a game of tennis, and so we rented the equipment at the SPA. The cost of 2 tennis rackets and a box of tennis balls was 2.5 € per hour.

12:30 . Lunch

I opted for a light salad at the Varanda Bar, next to the resort's largest pool. This bar also has a children's menu, with affordable prices. Alternatively, there is the Alfama Restaurant, with typical Portuguese cuisine on a beautiful terrace. Il Basilico is also an excellent option for those who enjoy Italian food, but the sun was so nice that we preferred to stay by the pool.

14:30 . Let's play !!

Try the petanque or the mini-golf !! When requesting the equipment, you also receive a piece of paper and a pen to write down the results. The mini golf was so much fun and more challenging then we were expecting! Very good !!

15:00 . Mini-Club

The Mini-Club is for children between 4 and 12 years old. They were making puppets and traditional games. The kids opted for a game of table tennis, followed by bathing in the indoor, heated pool, and "the good life" in the jacuzzi as I went back to my lounger. I could also have joined a free Portuguese wine tasting session at the MED restaurant, but I was too excited to finish my book.

16:00 . Snacktime

We loved the ice creams and Moccacino at Doce Lima Bar. Sweet greedy pleasures.

17:00 Happy Hour

There’s a "happy hour" plus live music at the OCEANO Bar, in the Eden Mar Hotel. This  reminded us of our holidays in the Algarve.

18:00

We visited the local Handicrafts Fair at Café Court. There was still enough time for a game of table football, followed by an aperitif at the PORTOFINO Bar.

20:00 . Dinner at Atlântida Restaurant

The buffet is excellent in quality, variety and presentation. Given that there are plenty of restaurants in this resort, this restaurant was not too crowded or noisy. We could even hear the background music playing (Bossa Nova).
After dinner, we strolled through the gardens. We loved looking at the colours of the pool, which change (within seconds) depending on the backlight.

22:00

In the bedroom, we sat on the balcony chatting away until bedtime.
Upon checkout, we were very sorry to leave the resort. On that weekend, we travelled to another place in the world. A world of sun, flowers, birds, dives and fun. A world with no worries, which was so peaceful.
If you are looking for a family vacation, without stress or complications, try Vila Porto Mare. Great stay !!
