This was 2018. .. {the year in review}

Time to take stock. .. We are preparing to say goodbye to 2018 !! What stays in the memory are our customers, who we proudly gave a warm welcome back, as well as the new projects and challenges we embraced. There is a Portuguese song that says "remembering is living”. We remember 2018 with our eyes fixed on the new challenges that 2019 is bound to bring . ..

1. A new website, with over 3,000 pages to explore

More dynamic, faster and more intuitive . .. this coming year let us introduce you to the new www.portobay.com. More photos and videos, maps to explore the location of hotels and destinations, a range of destination and hotel experiences, new areas, simplified and intuitive navigation. Months of dedication have resulted in more than 3,000 pages, optimized for smartphones and presented in six languages !!

2. We replaced over 1000 televisions

We replaced over one thousand televisions in Madeira: The Cliff Bay, Porto Santa Maria, Vila Porto Mare resort and PortoBay Serra Golf have new Smart TVs in rooms with over 100 channels in 13 languages !! 

3. Ongoing refurbishment: a priority

After new rooms at the Porto Santa Maria and Eden Mar, in 2018 we  begin refurbishing the rooms at The Cliff Bay. We also made a new deck here by the sea. At the Eden Mar, we redecorated the lower lobby, and the rooftop at the PortoBay Liberdade hotel in Lisbon was redecorated. 

4. New destination : Porto

Narrow winding streets, hand-painted tile façades, the Cais da Ribeira riverfront, the bridges, the River Douro, the appetisers, the wine and the longing for more. .. this is how Porto, the beautiful city, will welcome two new PortoBay hotels in 2019, to be located in the historical old town. One four-star and one five-star. Stay tuned !!

5. We received 101 awards and certifications

TripAdvisor, HolidayCheck, TUI, British Airways Holidays, Thomas Cook, Trivago . .. over the year, our hotels have been distinguished by tour operators and travel reviewers worldwide, using feedback from our guests. This is a tremendous motivation for all of us. Thank you !!

6. PortoBay Prestige: guests want to explore a variety of destinations

Year after year, we have seen customer loyalty grow. By 2018, 39% of our guests were repeat customers. Of these, one in three tried a different PortoBay hotel from the one they first stayed in. This really touches us, so we look forward to welcoming you in 2019 !!

7. New Experiences concept includes Events

Romance, Family, Sport, City Break, Cuisine . .. we have over 60 experiences to offer you !! This includes the well-known PortoBay Events. Keep up with what’s going to be happening in 2019 !! Search by hotel or destination and . .. guarantee your preference now !!

8. We have donated €65,413 via HOPE

The sixth HOPE by PortoBay campaign raised over 65,000 euros. The donations were handed over to the six beneficiary institutions on Madeira, in the Algarve and in Lisbon. Since this project was launched in 2012, HOPE has raised €322,000.

9. We told 50 stories

Tips, suggestions, secrets . .. at the blog www.inportobay.com you can learn about the destinations where we can be found. Stay tuned. This year we will keep helping you discover Madeira, Lisbon, the Algarve, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Búzios and . .. very shortly Porto !!

10. We have opened a new communication channel

From the middle of this year we started to provide a new messaging service. You can access it at www.portobay.com or via Facebook Messenger. Try it out here !! Our friendly team will be happy to help you !!

11. Our guests said “yes”

In May, with the entry into force of the new European Data Protection Regulation, we launched a personalised video campaign for each of our guests, underlining the importance of communication, and asked them to give us their consent. .. and many of them said "yes” !! In this campaign, we were one of the winners of the Video in Business Awards 2018 in "The Video Marketing Storyteller” category. If you would like to receive our newsletters, say yes too, here.

12. We care about your opinion

We are in a process of continuous improvement. We followed more than 10,000 testimonials about our hotels in online reviews, and conducted more than 18,000 feedback questionnaires for guests during their stay.
